Pickens County is a county located in the northwest part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 131,404. [1] Its county seat is Pickens. [2] The county was created in 1826. [3] It is part of the Greenville-Anderson-Greer, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Pickens, formerly called Pickens Courthouse, is a city in and the county seat [5] of Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,126 at the 2010 census. Pickens changed its classification from a town to a city in 1998, but it was not reported to the Census Bureau until 2001. [6]
Pickens County was Cherokee Indian Territory until the American Revolution. The Cherokees sided with the British, suffered defeat, and surrendered their South Carolina lands. This former Cherokee territory was included in the Ninety-Six Judicial District.
Pickens County, formed by the Constitution of 1868 [1826 as Pickens District], lying between Saluda River on the east, Keowee River on the west, North Carolina on the north, and Anderson County on the south, is in the Third congressional district and the Thirteenth judicial circuit.
The City of Pickens is situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is the county seat of Pickens County and is a small business center for a good agricultural and industrial area. The City is approximately 20 miles west of Greenville, South Carolina, 70 miles South of Asheville, North Carolina, and 143 miles Northeast of Atlanta, Georgia.
