It's simpler than Battlecon (another great 2-player option) but still offers plenty of interesting strategy decisions throughout the game. You're trying to string together combos that both attack your opponent and also utilize the special ability on the cards you play.
There's a huge world of great, simple 2-player games out there. Some of my favorites: Hey! That's My Fish - This one plays from 2-4, but I like it best with 2. The rules are incredibly simple, but the strategy is deep. Games usually last less than 15 minutes.

Curious Cargo is two player perfection! Hive is the best game created within the last 50 years, and I can't be convinced otherwise.
Not pick two, not "licensed games are always trash", nothing. Board games are very unpredictable and you just don't know what you're in for until you look at one very closely. I believe the implication of the question is that “You can have two out of three, but not all three“.
