Sound waves are caused by vibrating particles and are an example of a longitudinal wave. Human ears are specially adapted to hear sound waves and we can make use of certain types of sound waves called ultrasound waves in medicine and echolocation technology.
Waves and Optics. Regular Waves and Optics Worksheets and Solutions. A. Qualitative Questions: Bungy jumping is an increasingly popular sport, with a growing clientele of adrenalin junkies and an increasing number of facilities around the world. Plot a graph with displacement on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis for a bungee jump.
Summary Notes. Flashcards: 3.1 General Wave Properties. 3.2 Light. 3.3 Electromagnetic Spectrum. 3.4 Sound. Questions by Topic: Summary notes, revision videos and past exam questions by topic for CAIE IGCSE Physics Topic 3 - Properties of Waves including Light and Sound.
Sound is the movement of compression waves (longitudinal waves) hitting our ears. These compression waves are alternating high and low pressure areas. The air molecules vibrate back and forth, but don't move. Speakers imitate sounds by pushing air and causing vibrations.
1 kwi 2018 · SPEED OF WAVES. 2 factors that determine the speed of a waves: Elasticity of the medium (how stiff the medium is) the greater the elasticity – the faster speed can travel. E.g. sound travels faster through steel than through rubber and faster in solids than liquids or gases.
Activity Overview. Students will engage in a series of demonstrations using a constructed amplifier that illustrates the several principles of sound. Students will learn about motion, forces, transfer of energy, and interactions of energy and matter. Steps*.
