Use \R when you need to identify/couple potentially multi-character newline sequences like \r\n. If you are seeking vertical whitespace characters in any order, just use \v . See also my answer at: Explode PHP string by new line
In PHP I am trying to create a newline character: echo $clientid; echo ' '; echo $lastname; echo ' '; echo '\r\n'; Afterwards I open the created file in Notepad and it writes the newline literally:
nl2br (string $string, bool $use_xhtml = true): string. Returns string with <br /> or <br> inserted before all newlines (\r\n, \n\r, \n and \r).
