From time-honored Kiwanis initiatives such as book drives and school-supply giveaways to tutoring services and more, members around the world helped carry on the organization’s tradition of support for education and literacy throughout 2020-21. For the Kiwanis family, 2020-21 was a pivotal year in the organization’s commitment.
Annually, Kiwanis members spearhead over 241,000 service projects, raising nearly US$340 million to support children, families, and communities worldwide. These projects are meticulously tailored to address the specific needs of each community they serve.
Nearly half of the 2019-20 Kiwanis year had passed when the COVID-19 pandemic upended daily life around the world. As social distancing began in earnest in March 2020, the crisis also disrupted the regular operations of Kiwanis clubs, from service projects and fundraisers to meetings and much more.
Presently, Kiwanis boasts clubs in nearly 80 nations and regions worldwide. The late Kiwanian Tan Sri Khir Johari, a prominent figure in Malaysian politics, played a pivotal role in bringing the Kiwanis International community service club to Malaysia in 1976.
