This article reviews the latest evidence on perioperative IV fluid therapy for major surgery, focusing on the type and volume of fluids, and including suitable criteria to guide such therapy.

Fluid administration is a key component in perioperative care. Maintaining the physiological state with normal hydration status for adequate tissue perfusion and normal metabolic function is one of our main goals in perioperative anesthetic care.
