This review (1) discusses the overarching goals of perioperative fluid management, (2) reviews the physiology of fluid responsiveness as well as the pa-rameters that can be used to assess fluid responsiveness, and (3) provides evidence-based recommendations on intraoperative fluid management.
This review aims to explain the underlying physiology and describe the evidence base and the changes that have been seen in the approach to perioperative fluid therapy. Keywords: Cardiac output, fluid, perioperative, physiology. Go to: Worldwide, there are over 312 million surgical procedures performed annually. [1]
