Penpal by Dathan Auerbach : r/horrorlit. I absolutely adored this book. It is listed as "one of the scariest books ever" or something, and while it is definitely not that, it is an amazing read. I think the reason people think its so scary is because it is very much a "real life" book.

I used to have an account on a pen pal site called "penpal world" which was usually my main site to make contact with other pen pals but it didn't took for me long to realize that it was a half backed dating site *urgh*. On reddit, my pen pal experience wasn't great either.
