6 mar 2019 · The time has come — Pennsylvanians are now able to get REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or photo ID cards. REAL IDs are the result of a federal law that affects how states issue driver's licenses and photo ID cards if they're going to be used for certain purposes.
Step 1: Complete Form DL-54A (PDF), “Application for Initial Photo Identification Card." You mail the appropriate form following the instructions listed on the form to PennDOT, or visit your local Driver License Center with your driver’s license or another Acceptable Proof of Identification.
Beginning on March 1, newly issued non-REAL ID driver's licenses and ID cards look different. Per federal REAL ID regulations, non-REAL IDs must be clearly labeled with the words “NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES.”
