13 sie 2024 · Overall, Penn’s Battle III is an excellent saltwater spinning reel that has rightly earned the cult following it enjoys. In comparison to the Shimano Sedona FL, I think the Battle III is the better reel, hands down. Daiwa’s BG is a real competitor, however, offering greater capacity.

I’m a novice fisherman and was thinking about buying a Penn battle 3 surf combo with an 8000 size reel for big game fish and possibly sharks in Florida. I am pretty confident with the reel itself but not sure if the rod is good, it comes with a 10 foot, heavy power, medium-fast action rod.
I have a few penn battle IIs in a variety of sizes for salt water fishing. They are pretty nice reels, heavy for their size, and generally well built. They're not the smoothest or most well sealed, but they are easy for me to work on and they have a large network of shops for replacement parts which I've used a few times to keep the reels running.
