The ‘Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire’ (EDA-Q) was developed to measure behaviours reported in clinical accounts of extreme/‘pathological’ demand avoidance (PDA). The questionnaire allowed these traits to be measured consistently for research purposes. The EDA-Q should not be considered a diagnostic test.
PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) is widely understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum, involving the avoidance of everyday demands and the use of ‘social’ strategies as part of this avoidance. PDA individuals share autistic characteristics and in addition have many of the ‘key features’ of a PDA profile:

The ‘Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire’ (EDA-Q) was designed to quantify traits of extreme/‘pathological’ demand avoidance in children aged 5-17 for research purposes. The EDA-Q has now been superseded by a shorter version, the EDA-8 which contains only 8 of the original 26 items. More information on the EDA-8 and translations can be found here.
