1 wrz 2013 · Clinical guidelines recommend digoxin for patients with symptomatic systolic heart failure (HF) receiving optimal medical therapy, but this recommendation is based on limited, older trial data. We evaluated the effectiveness and safety of digoxin in a contemporary cohort of patients with incident systolic HF.
The search strategy identified 52 studies for systematic review, including 621 845 patients allocated to digoxin treatment or control, representing 2 248 775 patient years of follow-up (fig 1). Overall, 144 593 patients were taking digoxin (23.3%) compared with 476 984 in the control arms (76.7%).
