The launch of the indigenous warship paved the way for the Bangladesh Navy to soon deploy its own design. Built at the Khulna Shipyard, the design is an offshore patrol vessel that displaces 350 tonnes. The ships are 165.35 feet (50.40 m) long, with a beam of 24.61 ft (7.50 m) and a draught of 13.45 ft (4.10 m). The ships can carry out missions lasting up to seven days at a time.

BNS Bangabandhu (Bengali: বানৌজা বঙ্গবন্ধু) is a guided-missile frigate of the Bangladesh Navy. She is currently based at Chattogram, serving with the Commodore Commanding BN Flotilla (COMBAN). She is currently the only frigate of the Bangladesh Navy armed with ASW torpedo and gun based CIWS.

The Padma class is a series of patrol vessels serving in the Bangladesh Navy. The origin of the Padma class dates back to the decision by the Government of Bangladesh to equip its navy with indigenously built warships. The contract for the construction of the vessels was sealed between Khulna Shipyard and the Bangladesh Navy in May 2010.
