6 paź 2023 · Today, communities like Praha, Schulenburg, Dubina, Serbin, and Fredericksburg remain rooted in Teutonic and Slavic culture, and their preserved painted churches are shining examples of the customs, values, and artistic sensibilities of the original settlers.
Fifteen painted churches exist across Texas, most of them clustered in the South Central Texas communities around Schulenberg, like Ammannsville, Dubina, High Hill, and Praha. Guided tours of four of the painted churches are available through the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, and many are open to visitors traveling on their own.
One totally unique way these immigrants brought over their homeland was through their painted churches. Some may look simple (and totally quaint) on the outside, but once you enter, you'll be floored by the incredibly ornate and lively decor within.
