The Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel opened in 1888 at the behest of OLMC's first pastor, Fr. Patrick O’Brien. Headed by Mother Mary Catherine Feehan, the Academy opened under the tutelage of the Sisters of Mercy with about 180 students receiving instruction in the current Casey Hall building.
