Adamant should be plenty but rune will give you 1 more damage to your max hit (about 0.4% higher DPS) and slightly higher defense bonuses too. If you're 35+ defense then adamant is more than adequate as Elvarg will use slash-type melee often which has a max hit of 8 as opposed to the dragonfire's max hit of 10.
