According to this doctrine everyone is born with ‘original sin’ and therefore everyone needs to be redeemed by the sacrificial and atoning death of Christ. But what exactly is ‘original sin’ and in what does redemption, or liberation, from ‘original sin’ consist?
1. THE RELATION BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND ACTUAL SIN. The former originated in a free act of Adam as the representative of the human race, a transgression of the law of God and a corruption of human nature, which rendered him liable to the punishment of God.

Original sin is an entire want or lack of the concreated hereditary right- eousness in Paradise, or of God's image, according to which man was origi- nally created in truth, holiness, and righteousness.
Sometimes called "original sin", it means that all members of the human race were represented by Adam in the time of testing in the Garden of Eden. As our representative, Adam sinned, and God counted us guilty as well as Adam. The key passage illustrating this point is Romans 5:12-‐21 .
