Very similar in appearance to closely related Ermines and care must be taken with identification. Can be seen in large numbers both as a caterpillar and adult moth, often coming to light. Also seen in the daytime at rest on the foodplant. Flight Season Flies at night from June to August in a single generation.
14 cze 2024 · The Bird-cherry Ermine tends to have a more northern distribution compared to the other two and occasionally whole trees can be covered by their webs, the leaves stripped bare giving the tree an eerie appearance. Sometimes these webs are so extensive that they can cover nearby objects such as benches, bicycles and gravestones.
If numbers of larvae are too high for hand picking, control may be achieved by spraying with pesticides. Spraying at dusk is likely to give the best results. Thorough spray coverage is required if control is to be achieved and forceful spraying is needed to penetrate webbing.
