A license to practice physical therapy must be renewed every two years. The expiration date is the last day of the licensee's birth month. A renewal notice is processed approximately 90 days prior to the expiration date of the license. It is illegal to practice with an expired license.

Licensure is required in the State of Iowa and must be renewed on a regular basis. PTs must practice within the scope of physical therapy practice defined by the State of Iowa Practice Act. The entire practice act, including accompanying rules, constitutes the law governing physical therapy practice within the State of Iowa.
