1 mar 2010 · Omeprazole is available in 10 and 20 mg capsules. An empirical dosage in cats (and dogs) is 0.5–1.0 mg/kg PO sid. The drug is enteric-coated to prevent degradation. If reformulated, enteric-coated granules can be measured and placed in a gelatin capsule.
Ondansetron is used to treat and/or prevent severe vomiting in dogs and cats. The FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has approved this drug for use in humans, but it is not officially approved for use in animals.
Six cats with normal complete blood count, serum biochemistry, and urinalysis received 2 mg oral (mean 0.43 mg/kg), subcutaneous (mean 0.4 mg/kg), and intravenous (mean 0.4 mg/kg) ondansetron in a cross-over manner with a 5-day wash out.
Ondansetron (brand names Zofran®, Zuplenz®) is an antiemetic used off label (extra label) to treat severe nausea and vomiting in dogs and cats. Many drugs are commonly prescribed for off-label use in veterinary medicine.
Ondansetron is most often used in dogs and cats undergoing chemotherapy, to stop the vomiting caused by anti-cancer drugs. It is given to veterinary patients when other drugs have not controlled severe vomiting or when patients are unable to tolerate the more commonly prescribed anti-emetics.
If your cat is hard to pill, consider the injectable forms of the nausea meds, which are often much easier to give than oral. (Injectable Cerenia does sting most cats, but less so if kept refrigerated.) For ondansetron (not Cerenia), the injectable also needs to be given less often than oral.
