Nepal has used a series of five-year plans in an attempt to make progress in economic development. It completed its ninth economic development plan in 2002; its currency has been made convertible, and 17 state enterprises have been privatised. Foreign aid to Nepal accounts for more than half of the development budget.
2 kwi 2024 · KATHMANDU, April 2, 2024— Nepal’s economy is expected to grow by 3.3% in FY24, driven by revived tourism and a pickup in hydropower exports. On the demand side, private consumption will drive growth, supported by a substantial increase in remittance inflows, according to the World Bank’s twice-a-year country development update.
The lower growth (1.9 percent), wide fiscal deficit (6.1 percent of GDP), and high inflation (7.8 percent average) registered during FY23 represent significant headwinds to Nepal’s macroeconomic outlook in the short and medium term.
