31 paź 2019 · I have a big oil leak in front of my 2005 XC90 2.5T. Not really sure where its coming from but the timing cover is covered with oil and so is the timing belt. Its going through a quart of oil every 2 months. From what I can tell, there are 2 cam seals and 1 crank front seal.
This repair was performed exactly per Volvo TSB. These Cam pulley plugs are a common oil leak point.

The cam seals do leak and need to be replaced often on the 2.5. The crank seals almost never leak on these. The reason for the leak is most likely a clogged oil trap (PCV).

15 wrz 2011 · As the owner of a '99 Outback I am well acquainted with the tendency of the late '90s era 2.5 engines to leak oil at the front engine seal and cam shaft seals. I have had such leaks repaired on my Outback 3 times by 3 different mechanics, and only one repair lasted for any significant length of time.
