17 maj 2023 · Over 2,400 individual state wrestling champions have been crowned in Ohio since the first State championship was held in 1938 at John Hay High School in Cleveland. In 1978 Mark Zimmer made history and became the first wrestler in Ohio and third in the nation to win four state titles.
