The Ohio and Erie Canal was a canal constructed during the 1820s and early 1830s in Ohio. It connected Akron with the Cuyahoga River near its outlet on Lake Erie in Cleveland, and a few years later, with the Ohio River near Portsmouth. It also had connections to other canal systems in Pennsylvania.

22 lis 2021 · The Ohio & Erie Canal became the spine of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, established in 1974. In 1996, it also became the backbone of the new Ohio & Erie Canalway. This national heritage area continues to improve life here in Northeast Ohio. The canal no longer carries goods, news, or people.
Maps are being added on an ongoing basis, and will eventually include coverage of the Ohio & Erie, Miami & Erie, Hocking, and Walhonding Canals. The maps document the route of each canal, noting the location of bridges, culverts, dams, locks, and other notable features.

2 cze 2019 · After exiting Chillicothe the canal passed out of town on three locks road where the lock walls still stand, and the state dam, a feeder for the 15 mile level from Chillicothe to Waverly. It is at the same elevation as lake Erie before dropping another 80 feet to the Scioto river in Portsmouth Ohio.
