11 wrz 2024 · As of end of 2023, Europe reached a cumulative offshore wind energy capacity of 34 gigawatts, accounting for roughly 45 percent of the total offshore capacity in operation worldwide.
The revised TEN-E (Trans-European Networks for Energy) framework supports cooperation on cross-border projects, while the newly announced wind power package seeks to strengthen the EU wind industry and further develop offshore wind.
To accelerate wind energy manufacturing across Europe, the Commission presented the EU Wind Power Package in October 2023. It consists of 2 initiatives – the European Wind Power Action Plan and a communication on achieving the EU’s offshore wind ambitions.
28 lut 2024 · Annual build-out of offshore wind should ramp-up significantly towards the end of the decade. We anticipate installations over 2024-2030 to take the EU to 393 GW by the 2030. The EU2030 target is 425 GW. We also see Europe's installed wind power capacity exceeding 500 GW over the same timeframe.
There is a big variety of EU funding programmes available to finance energy projects. Those particularly relevant for offshore renewable energy (wind and ocean) are presented below and in a regularly updated document which provides an overview of the various instruments.
The European Commission expects the EU to produce at least 240 gigawatts (GW) of global offshore wind power capacity by 2050, while international organisations specialising in the energy field are even more optimistic about the prospects of this energy source.
18 cze 2024 · Soaring costs have derailed offshore wind projects, threatening climate change mitigation efforts and depressing valuations of wind power companies.
