CTD on Startup usually indicates a missing master or a bad Oblivion.ini setting. Whenever troubleshooting crashes, try regenerating a fresh Oblivion.ini. Reinstalling Oblivion will not overwrite an existing Oblivion.ini, so clear it out along with the My Games\Oblivion folder for a clean sweep.
7 mar 2020 · I've been trying for hours to play oblivion. i downloaded yesterday and started up the game. i tried creating a save file so the oblivion documents folder was created to mod the game. the folder was not created. i then spent the next 6 hours scouring the internet to find a solution.

Use this if not even the launcher appears or if you get "game not available" messages. Restart Steam.

I have tried copying Oblivion_default.ini into MyGames/Oblivion folder, renaming it to Oblivion.ini and changing resolution there, but the game didn't seem to read the file and it nothing changed. And there's another major problem: I can't save my game.
A solution someone said worked was to disable OneDrive sync for oblivion and to make sure your saves are in the default save location, [C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves], and make sure the .ini reflects that.
If bUseMyGamesDirectory is set to 0, Oblivion.exe will try to find Oblivion.ini and Plugins.txt in the directory Oblivion.exe is run from. This setting is mainly useful when not using OblivionLauncher.exe to set which mods are being loaded (that is, using Wrye Bash to manage your mods).
