I’ve recently ran into a few issues trying to disable OneDrive and move my sims folder back onto my desktop. I was able to successfully unlink everything and add my mods and cc back into the game ~ as it shows me the pop up message at the start. However, my save files aren’t showing up.
I researched how to fix this new issue and NOTHING WORKS. I've tried moving my Sims file around (out of the icloud, then back in, then to documents, then to desktop) but nothing. I have disabled my computer from automatically backing up to icloud and that didn't restore the saves either.
to use mods, you always need to add them to the user data folder. by default, the game creates this in local Documents, or you might find an Electronic Arts folder in the OneDrive equivalent if you're using that to sync.
Unable to start: The contents of your user data directory were created by a newer version of The Sims 4 and cannot be loaded. Please update your game via Origin to play. There are only two safe solutions - deleting Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder (you will lose all saves, mods, options, etc.) or updating your game.
Edit: uninstalled and re installed then added the files manually, the mods are there but the saves still don't show up! if your mods do show up, they're in the right subfolder. make sure the main path is the same for the saves (by default documents / electronic arts / the sims 4).
