If anyone ever comes back here, I solved this issue because I was (like most of you) REinstalling Oblivion after several years but my old config files and save games were still sitting under my user folder. I moved them to a backup location and deleted the three config files in MyGames\Oblivion.
1 sty 2016 · The Unofficial Oblivion Mods' readme is actively telling people to unzip the archive in the " Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\ folder.", when it should be the "Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\ Data\" folder. If you're using Steam, close down steam and replace "Bethesda Softworks" with steamapps\common\ filepath of course.

28 lip 2022 · If you still crash, rename your modded Oblivion folder and restore a backup of a Clean Vanilla Oblivion install and slowly rebuild it (the data folder in particular). If you can narrow it down to the folder in the case, you can generally find out where which mod package the culprit file came from.
1 mar 2019 · Had the exact same problem. Fixed it by turning off GOG's cloud-saves function and then deleting everything in c:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ folder, including my old saves.
