The latest global, regional and country-level estimates of cause-specific disability-adjusted life year (DALYs), years of life lost (YLL) and years lost due to disability (YLD) for the year 2000, 2010, 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2021 are available for download below.
6 kwi 2023 · Participants with a weight loss > 10 kg had higher rates of all-cause (HR 1.22; 95%CI 1.09–1.36) and CVD mortality (HR 1.27; 95%CI 1.01–1.59) compared to individuals with no weight loss.
1 mar 2024 · The health risks caused by overweight and obesity are increasingly well documented and understood. In 2019, higher-than-optimal BMI caused an estimated 5 million deaths from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, neurological disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, and digestive disorders (1).
A body mass index (BMI) over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is obese. In 2019, an estimated 5 million noncommunicable disease (NCD) deaths were caused by higher-than-optimal BMI. Rates of overweight and obesity continue to grow in adults and children.
We estimated that excess weight was responsible for more than 1300 excess deaths per day (nearly 500,000 per year) and a loss in life expectancy of nearly 2·4 years in 2016, contributing to higher excess mortality than smoking.
20 maj 2024 · How do researchers estimate the death toll caused by each risk factor, whether it’s smoking, obesity, or air pollution?
