Prevention & Treatment: Avoid pruning oaks during the active growing season when fungal spores are most prevalent.
5 maj 2009 · Yellowing and wilting of leaves often related to physiological stress may be the first symptom of this disease. Fungal mats (stroma) will develop beneath the bark of infected trees. Bark will begin to slough-off due to pressure from the stroma beneath it.
Symptoms of acute oak decline are essentially the tree's response to stress. They are a thinning crown as leaves are lost, cracks in the bark, and dark bleeds that may run down the trunk. If the stress is severe or prolonged, the tree can reach a tipping point where it runs out of energy to get through the winter or fight off pests.
Main symptoms Acute oak decline: weeping lesions from cracks in the bark, trees can die rapidly (4-5 years); Chronic oak decline: twig and branch dieback, ‘staghead’ symptoms in crown, slow deterioration (many years)

Anthracnose (Fungus – Gnomonia sp.) All oaks are susceptible; however, post oak appears to be the most vulnerable. Systems of anthracnose include small irregular spots formed along the leaf margin or leaf veins. During periods of severe infection premature defoliation may occur.
