These cellars served as Nuremberg’s Medieval dungeons (Lochgefängnisse) from 1340-1806 and are pretty interesting to tour, but first we want to give you an overview of the Town Hall Complex itself.
From bread house to prison. In 1322, Nuremberg – a Free City of the Empire – purchased the building rights for what would later become the Gothic City Hall from the monastery of Heilsbronn.
