The events of chapter 11 took place in perhaps their second year of wandering in the wilderness.The chapter begins with a hint of a problem, “The people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the Lord.” Adversity has tested the faith of many people.
Biblical Commentary. Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-30. COMMENTARY: THE CONTEXT: Numbers 1 – 10:10 dealt with Israel’s preparations to proceed from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land. Those preparations involved taking a census (1:1-54; 3:14-39; 4:1-49) and receiving various laws (chapters 5-6).
