[9] Additional names have been added throughout the years since: as of May 2018 there are 58,320 names. The number of names on the wall differs from other counts of U.S. Vietnam War deaths.
The Salute opened with a vigil Wednesday morning at the National Cathedral, where all of the nearly 58,000 names on The Wall were read by volunteers around the clock, day and night, through midnight Friday.
