The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a networking protocol for clock synchronization between computer systems over packet-switched, variable-latency data networks. In operation since before 1985, NTP is one of the oldest Internet protocols in current use.
23 mar 2023 · Reference clocks are identified by a syntactically correct but invalid IP address, in order to distinguish them from ordinary NTP peers. These addresses are of the form 127.127.t.u, where t is an integer denoting the clock type and u indicates the unit number in the range 0-3.
23 lis 2022 · NTP Version 4 supports almost four dozen satellite, radio and telephone modem reference clocks plus several audio devices for instrumentation signals. A general description of the reference clock support is on this page.
27 cze 2022 · Basically from the perspective of a client, it is the number of servers to a reference clock. So a reference clock itself appears at stratum 0, while the closest servers are at stratum 1. On the network there is no valid NTP message with stratum 0.
NTP supports a large number of satellite, radio and telephone modem reference clocks, plus a special pseudo-clock used for backup or when no other clock source is available. A general description of the reference clock support is on this page.
Reference clock addresses are of the form 127.127.t.u, where t is an integer denoting the clock type and u indicates the unit number in the range 0-3. While it may seem overkill, it is in fact sometimes useful to configure multiple reference clocks of the same type, in which case the unit numbers must be unique.
