18 wrz 2023 · An elevated NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide) level typically signifies heart-related issues, particularly heart failure. NT-proBNP is a biomarker released by the heart in response to stress or strain.
Prevalence of Moderately Elevated NT-proBNP. Moderately elevated NT-proBNP (≥125 pg/mL) was detected in 2686 participants overall, specifically in 19.8% of females and in 7.1% of males. At the age band of <30 years, 9.8% of females had NT-proBNP ≥125 pg/mL, rising to 76.5% at age ≥80 years (Figure 2; Table S2).
Because very high levels of NT-proBNP carry a poor prognosis, refer people with suspected heart failure and an NT-proBNP level above 2,000 ng/litre (236 pmol/litre) urgently, to have specialist assessment and transthoracic echocardiography within 2 weeks. [2018]
