3 paź 2023 · Normal thyroid levels for adults are: TSH: 0.5 to 5.0 mIU/L (milli-international units per liter) Total T4: 5.0 and 12.0μg/dL (micrograms per deciliter) Total T3: 80 and 220 ng/dL (nanograms per deciliter)
5 wrz 2023 · In some individuals with a low TSH, only the T3 is elevated and the FT4 or FTI is normal. T3 testing rarely is helpful in the hypothyroid patient, since it is the last test to become abnormal. Patients can be severely hypothyroid with a high TSH and low FT4 or FTI, but have a normal T3.
11 paź 2024 · If TSH levels are within a normal range, no additional tests are measured. If TSH levels are abnormal, reflex testing is performed to measure free T4 and free T3. However, some practitioners may bypass this cascade approach and order TSH, free T3, and free T4 together from the start.

TSH secretion, in turn, is controlled through negative feedback by thyroid hormones (see "Thyroid hormone synthesis and physiology").
TBG normally carries approximately 75% of bound thyroid hormones. The other binding proteins are. Thyroxine-binding prealbumin (transthyretin), which has high affinity but low capacity for T4. Albumin, which has low affinity but high capacity for T3 and T4.
