Both are pneumatic weapon systems based on rotating bolt action, and both hold medium rifle cartridges, 7.62x39mm for the AK-47 and 5.56x45mm for the M16. The 5.56x45mm was eventually standardized by NATO as the preferred intermediate rifle cartridge.

This is an original pre-ban AK series rifle. It has the standard military sights, threaded flash hider, bayonet lug, cleaning rod, "66/CSI" marked stamped receiver, and fixed stock. Numbers match on the recoil spring guide, bolt carrier, bolt, and gas cylinder.
