An 80-10 end-fed half-wave antenna can be a very good performing part of an HF station. But its performance depends heavily on a well-designed and carefully constructed 49:1 unun, which matches the long wire impedance to within tuning range of operation. But the perfor-mance of an end-fed antenna is also very dependent on height above ground.
Manual 1:49 UnUn for End Fed antennas 1 kiloWatt The feeding point of a multiband End Fed antenna is practically a wide band impedance transformer. This means that the end fed wire antenna, which has a very high impedance of around 2500 Ohm, is transformed to an impedance of 50 Ohm.
Coil assembly. The diagram to the right shows what we're trying to accomplish. The pur-poses of this design are to maintain a 50-ohm impedance transformation on the transceiver side of the unun for a wide range of frequencies on 100 watts of transmit power.
The RU-4:1 is a 4:1 Unun designed to allow your LDG Automatic Antenna Tuner to easily match vertical and end-fed antennas. It can also operate “stand alone”, and may not require an LDG Tuner for resonant verticals. It may also be used with any antenna project where a 4:1 Unun is needed.
The manual tuner usually provides an SWR settings for given frequencies and can recall these settings meter to indicate tuning and constantly monitors the match instantly. An antenna tuner can render the antenna resonant between transreceiver and antenna.
The tuner is only needed if the antenna system isn't matched (usually 50 ohm), if the antenna gives the right impedance, your setup is already complete. The tuner is usually used to make the antenna usable on the wrong bands or working wider.
Your LDG Unun allows you to connect longwires and vertical antennas to your LDG tuner. The RU-4:1 provides a 4:1 impedance transformation, and is especially designed for use with the LDG S9 series of vertical antennas.
