An 80-10 end-fed half-wave antenna can be a very good performing part of an HF station. But its performance depends heavily on a well-designed and carefully constructed 49:1 unun, which matches the long wire impedance to within tuning range of operation. But the perfor-mance of an end-fed antenna is also very dependent on height above ground.
The advantage of a voltage unun is its ability to easily match impedances, unlike a current un- un, which uses an isolation transformer to balance its input and output current, but suffers from impedance matching ability.
DIY. Worthwhile projects you can build on your own. The inverted-L Rybakov 806 antenna. The what? I’ve been looking for a good inverted-L antenna design that I could build, and hap-pened upon this version, which seems to have not only operator testimonials but technical data to support them.
7 lut 2024 · Yes, use a 9:1 Unun type transformer. You can also use an antenna called an End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) that is about 66 feet long and uses a 49:1 Unun. With either antenna try and get it up as high as possible for best effect, but even if it ends up being low it will work great for NVIS around the UK and into Europe, so you'll have fun regardless.
12 sie 2016 · A 9:1 unun is a transformer that reduces the impedance at the input by a factor of 9. So, if you connect a length of wire that presents an impedance of about 450 Ω to the input, you’ll get an impedance of about 50 Ω on the output. In fact, the 9:1 unun that I built is actually an autotransformer.
I have a Tecsun PL-990. I'm looking to add a long wire antenna outside. Looking at a few articles, it seems a 9:1 unun is recommended to match the impedance of the wire. In other places though, I see folks just clipping a long wire to their telescopic antenna. Anyone have experience with these setups?
These are sometimes known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun. Its really an impedance transformer (9:1) to feed a high impedance, end fed (unbalanced) random wire which is likely to be a few hundred ohms, and transform it into something closer to a 50Ω (unbalanced) coaxial input, hence UnUn.
