An 80-10 end-fed half-wave antenna can be a very good performing part of an HF station. But its performance depends heavily on a well-designed and carefully constructed 49:1 unun, which matches the long wire impedance to within tuning range of operation. But the perfor-mance of an end-fed antenna is also very dependent on height above ground.
The heart and soul of the EFHW antenna system is the impedance matching transformer. Its task is to match the incoming feedline impedance of 50 ohms to the 2500 ohms impedance present at the end of the dipole. The transformer can be wound in a variety of ways, depending on the desired results. The most popular design currently is a 49:1 ratio.

8 sie 2021 · I built a 40m end fed halfwave antenna and unun, and the wire is about 66 ft long. I have some tall trees nearby I can hang it in, semi-permanently. Which of the following would be better? A) hanging the far end nice and high, about 50ft, but then slope down the feed end to about 8ft
