1.1 Background. The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments for English Language Arts (NJSLA–ELA), Mathematics (NJSLA–M), and Science (NJSLA–S) measure how well students meet the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). The NJSLS define what students are expected to learn in each content area.
For both ELA and mathematics, scale scores range from 650 to 850 for all grades/courses. For science, scale scores range from 100 to 300 for all grades. Major Claims scale scores: ELA reports provide separate scale scores for both Reading and Writing for all grades. Reading scale scores range from 10 to 90.
