I think you you only have 7 days to get a full refund and 30 days to get an even exchange. Which if you do end up getting a defective unit, I’d recommend returning it as soon as possible due to 3DS not being frequently available in-store. Though do confirm in the customer questions megathread of the r/GameStop subreddit.
I got the Fire Emblem special edition new 3DS XL from Gamestop refurbished as well. Pretty much the same experience, very nice condition with a charger! Funny because new 3DSs don't come with chargers from Nintendo.
