Generally speaking, service/protection plans are poor value and it's better to self insure.
If it's certified refurbished by Nikon, it should be alright. That was the case for my D7100 which I bought from Adorama a year ago. It had 395 shots when I received it, and it works fine. Also, I know Cameta Camera also sells Nikon-refurbished cameras and somehow they extend the warranty to a year, so that might be worth checking out.
