Ondo, state, western Nigeria. It was created out of former Ondo province of former Western state in 1976. It is bounded by the states of Kwara and Kogi on the north, Edo on the east, Delta on the southeast, and Osun and Ogun on the west and by the Bight of Benin of the Atlantic Ocean on the south.
The ethnic composition of Ondo State consists largely of Yoruba subgroups of the Idanre, Akoko, Akure, Ikale, Ilaje, Ondo,Ese Odo and Owo peoples. Ijaw people , such as the Apoi and Arogbo populations inhabit the southeastern swamps close to the Edo state border.

Ondo, town, Ondo state, southwestern Nigeria, at the southern edge of the Yoruba Hills (elevation 940 feet [287 m]) and the intersection of roads from Ife, Akure, and Okitipupa.
Ondo State has 75 kilometres of Atlantic coastline making it the longest unbroken seashore in Nigeria. A deep-sea port is to be located two kilometres off the coast with an adjacent Free Trade Zone development. Both provide a huge opportunity for global trading.
