18 lis 2024 · Pausing the repair project will allow the city to reopen the aqueduct soon, restarting the flow of water from four additional reservoirs. Conserving water will slow the depletion rate of the stored water in city reservoirs and can potentially postpone or eliminate the threat of a serious shortage.
21 kwi 2024 · The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will connect a new 2.5-mile bypass tunnel to structurally sound portions of the aqueduct, permanently rerouting water around a leak that releases some 35 million gallons per day. Making the connection will require shutting down the Delaware system for eight months, starting in October.
