Wolters, commander of U.S. European Command and NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, during the change of command ceremony on June 28, 2022, at Clay Kaserne, Wiesbaden, Germany.
In June 2022, Williams was nominated for promotion to general and appointment as Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe and Africa. He replaced Christopher G. Cavoli, who was to take command of the United States European Command, on 28 June 2022.
