Game Maker has some 3D functionality and there have been 3D games made with it, but it's 2D focused software at its core. I don't recommend using Game Maker for 3D games, especially if you've never made anything in 3D before. Don't worry about the Unity cut as it's honestly incredibly generous.

In conclusion, GameMaker is great at getting you into game dev and making it easy to make your first game or two, but it teaches bad coding practices and does very little to teach good program design for games.
