As for internals, not a huge amount. Upgrade springs exist but the stock spring is already pretty stiff to get performance out of the tiny plunger tube, so going to an even heavier spring makes the prime a little uncomfortable and doesn't improve performance all that much.

The vent in the path to the Elite barrels is an interesting one. The system was most likely tuned to work with Mega darts first, since they require more force to achieve equivalent performance, and that vent hole was added later as a way of reducing the Elite dart performance to within toy-spec.
