Northern State Medical University Arkhangelsk NSMU was established in 1932 for training medical personnel in the European North of Russia. It currently hosts about 9000 students from 17 countries in 16 faculties and institutes and has a staff of 980, 394 of which are academics – including 80 professors, 250 PhD.
Arkhangelsk State medical institute opened on December 16, 1932 with the aim of training medical personnel for the European North of Russia. In 1994 ASMI was transformed into the Arkhangelsk State medical academy (AGMA), and on October 9, 2000 - to the Northern State medical University (SSMU).
Not only for Arkhangelsk Region, but also for other areas of North-Western Russia (Vologda, Murmansk and Nenets regions; Komi and Karelia republics) the NSMU is a remarkable university center, which has nowadays approximately 5500 students – with PG students altogether 8000.
The University is recognized by WHO (World Health Organization), ECFMG (USA), Medical Council of India (as per MCI Rules). NSMU is member of AMSE (Association of Medical Schools of Europe). After passing degree from NSMU students are eligible for MCI, USMLE (USA) or PLAB (UK) Exams.
