CONVENTION. of 1919-20. PREAMBLE. We, the people, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, do ordain and establish the following declaration of rights and frame of government, as the Constitution of the State of Nebraska.
Some might say Nebraska’s Constitution is a thing of the past. They’d be right. The document that serves us today was written in 1875, making it one of the oldest state constitutions in existence.1 Far from being consigned to the dustbin of history, Nebraska’s Constitution reflects the times and the events shaping our state.
